Weekend To-Do List: Tear Night

Tear Night: There truly isn’t a night quite like this on any campus anywhere in the world. This is the night that Alcohol EDU warns you about when you are still a pre-freshman. This is the night that makes the administration cringe, and no matter how hard they try to curb student drinking at W&L, I sincerely hope that they’ve resigned themselves to the fact that Tear Night will be a shit show regardless of what they do. With that said, to truly enjoy Tear Night, one musn’t simply drink copiously and engage in sketchy behaviors that are sure to become sketchy regrets and or rashes come Sunday morning. The point of Tear Night is to celebrate those who are entering your Greek letter organization and to give them one last horrah before the eight weeks that lay before them. Aside from the designated sober officers and the two or three that are sure to fall through and spend Tear Night on lastminute.com looking for plane tickets to sunny Florida, I hope to see each and every one of you as spirited on Tear Night as I plan to be. Four years ago, on the Sunday after Tear Night, I visited this campus and immediately recognized that this was the school I needed to attend. Let’s not let anyone who comes for a tour this Sunday down, ladies and gentleman. Have a wonderful and safe Tear Night.
