Lexicon of the Week: Cock Block

Definition: The verb cock block refers to a move employed by trained male chicken fighters, also known as cocks. When these fighters attack in pairs, one usually remains behind to distract or thwart the competition.

Etymology: From the latin word Cock, which means to rise first, as in the morning. In most societies, the cock rises with the sun and stays up until further notice, crowing loudly upon rising. Block simply comes from the German root word Blocca which can either mean to stifle or can refer to a wench like man or woman with little home training and selfish manners.

Sentence: I totally had that in the bag until her entire pledge class swooped in to cock block me. Damnit.
